Camp changes kids, often for the better.
"Herself" was away at a church camp last week. It was her first experience being away from home for that long, and she handled it well. She was a year too young for paintball and the climbing wall, but that was ok by her. Next year will be fine. She was able to conquer her fear of deep water, and passed the "I-can-swim-in-the-six-foot-section" test. W00T!
She also got a lot of sun. I'm not used to seeing her so brown. I keep suggesting a bath. "Daa-aad," she says, "I already haad one!"
But the biggest change is her attitude toward clutter. In her cabin, each day began by tidying up one's few permitted possessions, making the bed, etc.. After breakfast, the campers were alloted time to sweep and dust their room.
Here's the fun part: While Herself was away, The Momster did a number on Herself's "class A disaster area" bedroom. Though orders of magnitude neater than when she left, it was still considerably more cluttered than *she'd gotten used to*.
I wish I could claim that it was all part of the Master Parenting Plan, but I can't. Still, I'll take serendipity any day.
