Moms aren't the only ones blogging, influencing and engaging on the social web any more. There is a lesser-known and edgier revolution surging right now: the Web Dad. Dads are increasingly posting humorous and revealing insights on modern day fatherhood through dad blogs, and they are becoming an impressive force on popular social networks. As Father's Day approaches, the definition of dad is evolving rapidly. Welcome to Dad 3.0.

While there are numerous social networking sites geared at moms, the first social networks for dads are just emerging. Dadosphere.com, a social network for dads featuring the writing of several real-life dads, officially launches on Father's Day 2008. DadLabs.com, an edgy, fun and informative online TV network for dads and the women who tolerate and/or love them, recently launched a dad social network as well, the DadLabs Crib.

"Our fathers were salesmen, lawyers or truckers who also happened to be dads; today, we’re dads who also happen to be salesmen, lawyers or truckers."
"This embracing of fatherhood as front and center has added a noticeably masculine twist to the online parenting community."
"Because 'involved dads' still make up a relatively small population, we need (perhaps more so than moms) to connect with one another, not only for advice and camaraderie, but also for validation that we’re on the right track."

"Most men that spend time online are more multidimensional than most web
publishers give them credit for -- they want more than tech news,
gaming and 'adult entertainment.' Increasingly they are able to find
it."
"Fatherhood is on the minds of modern guys, but engaging them is
going to take more than just cloning successful motherhood sites.
Attracting dads to talk about parenting is going to take much more than
just changing the color scheme from pink to blue."
"Men want content that
is authentic, utilitarian and/or funny. That is exactly the blend that
you are going to find on Dadosphere or DadLabs."

"Dads have always been in the background when it came to raising children. If the dad was the 'domestic engineer,' then it was a joke."
"Look at the '80s movie, Mr. Mom. 'Oh look, the dad is staying home and taking care of the kids! Chaos will surely ensue!' Today, roles are reversing."
"Dadosphere, DadLabs and other emerging sites geared at dads are places that fathers and soon-to-be fathers can get parenting tips from other guys who have been there. Social networking for dads is something a lot of men need and are coming to appreciate."

Publisher and co-owner of Dadosphere
