I just wanted to set up some expectations for myself. I am not a popular blogger, nor am I a writer for any magazine, newspaper, or other publication. I'm just a simple Dad who enjoys blogging and loves being a Dad. I heard about Dadosphere a while back, and I really wanted to join a social gathering of father-types, so it seemed like fate was smiling upon me. I signed up and never posted a thing. Four months later, here I am, why? Why am I writing now? Find out after the jump, Daddy-O...
There are many reasons, I'm a really bad procrastinator, I may be a bit lazy, definitely busy, I think I had writers block one day, oh - and the website logged me out in the middle of writing once, deleting everything I had typed. Pretty much all of that.
I am writing now to redeem myself. I may not be as experienced a father as others, but being a Dad has always been a dream for me. The day my daughter was born, my world changed - for the better, of course - I can now add D.A.D. to my title. More importantly, I was bestowed the responsibility of raising a responsible and compassionate human. It's been a great responsibility to receive, and I say that even with the sleepless nights in mind.
The expectations I am setting for myself here are, mainly, to bring my thoughts to the table. Being a new dad, I have TONS of questions, and I think know that I am not the only one. I am a gadget dad, so I will write posts on pieces of technology that makes fatherhood easier and funner. I was a NICU dad for three weeks, and I have lots of material to write about there. I am now a baby dad, who has just discovered the "social smile," and loving it! Lastly, I am a WebDad, I play World of Warcraft, I'm trying to go back to school online, and much more. So, I'll pretty much post about anything, and I hope that fellow fathers can find my rantings to be useful, or at least entertaining.
Before I go, a quick background on myself and my family: I work at the local university. I am a hardware manager which means I work on any classroom technology and office technology, e.g. computers, audio, video - basically all the fun stuff. My wife is a Veterinary Technician in the US Army. Yup, I'm an Army "wife" as well as a geek Dad. Our daughter was born 7 weeks premature, and is growing to be a healthy young lady.
I also started a couple of blogs that I hope to continue as I write for Dadosphere: The Guamaso and For Better, For Worse. The Guamaso is really my personal blog where I offer other musings on being a father (among other things). Hopefully someone will find something useful there as well.
For Better, For Worse is a blog that my wife and I will be contributing to about relationships and parenting.
Well, that's that. I'd like to say hello to everyone here, and I hope that this community continues to grow with somemore top-notch dads. Peace.
